About Sam

Sam is the founder of Upward Physiotherapy and has been a physiotherapist since 2019. He has worked in a Melbourne private practice and in community care, supporting NDIS participants and Support at Home clients, and he spent four years as a physiotherapy researcher at the University of Melbourne alongside his clinical work.

Sam’s focus has been on older adults experiencing reduced mobility and confidence due to weakness, poor balance or neurological conditions. He has helped hundreds of clients feel more confident, move better and improve their strength and health for the long term.

Good physiotherapy, in Sam’s view, starts with a thorough assessment and ends with a plan that targets what the assessment found. It always involves exercise, education and advice, and progress should be regularly reassessed so treatment decisions come from evidence rather than habit. Clients should feel heard, their priorities should lead the plan, and there should be some fun in it, because people stick with what they enjoy.

That is the approach he built at Upward: active intervention that improves strength and mobility, measured and adjusted as we go.

Sam enjoys seeing patients daily to help them achieve their goals.

He also loves to travel and stay active by playing tennis and strength training.
